The Nitty Gritty

Event Type: Music Festival
Event Location: Penrith, Cumbria, UK
Event Capacity: 30,000

Our first ever experience of Kendal Calling was back in 2008 when Rick's band played on the new music stage. Since then we've performed there every year as DJ's & in various bands.

I guess you could say we cut our teeth in the festival world on Kendal. It’s our favourite festival, it feels like home. We're very much part of the furniture.

But then...

Things changed a little in 2023, when we were invited to host "The Green Room", a brand new VIP area envisaged by the organisers. We'd been hoping this might happen for some time! Not only that - we'd also been asked to provide our tents & theming to the Artist Village too.

The Brief

Our brief was to create a cool chill out area for VIP attendees to kick back and get some respite from the hustle & bustle of the rest of the event.

Our stretch tents provided some much needed cover from the elements, and we threw in our fancy new tent linings too. They looked insane, if we do say so ourselves.

As for seating, we filled the tents with our inflatable Chesterfield sofas. Que hearing "are they inflatable!? every five minutes for the entire weekend.

We also repurposed our LED tipis into disco tipis - complete with uplighters and you guessed it, disco balls. There's something pretty magical about disco balls reflecting through a woodland area.

Over in the Artist Village, we'd set up our slightly smaller 10x10m tent, alongside a foliage wall backdrop with neon lighting. Our DJ booth in there was going to hold some vinyl decks as Artists were invited to spin some records in their down time.

Hey - who doesn't like DJing?

From Chilled to Full Blown Rave

Alongside providing the decor, we also programmed the DJing in The Green Room.

Having been around the block a few times from a musical perspective, we knew just what was needed. Some chilled vibes in the afternoon with the potential to maybe (definitely) get a little rave-like later on.

A Resounding Success

The weekend flew by without a hitch, other than an infected horse-fly bite. The Green Room was packed to the rafters the entire time as we had sold the full allocation of VIP wristbands.

Before we knew it, the festival had announced our return for 2024 the following week. It looks as though The Green Room is set to grow & develop with the festival in the coming years. Win, win.

And finally…

We were made up that some famous acts were photographed, smiling ear to ear, right beside our tents in the Artist Village! Better make a mental note to hang around there next year…
